The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said he met with Yemeni and Saudi officials, as well as representatives of the five permanent member states, in Riyadh to discuss de-escalation.
A statement issued by the Envoy’s office explained that he concluded his visit to Riyadh today, Sunday, where he met with the Head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, in addition to representatives from the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
He revealed that he has moved on to Muscat to continue his consultations, in an indication of discussing the outcomes of his Riyadh talks with the Houthi negotiating delegation and Omani officials.
It said that the discussions in Saudi Arabia focused on the urgent need for immediate de-escalation and the importance of the parties agreeing on a path forward that preserves the gains achieved through the UN-brokered 2022 truce.
The statement indicated that Grundberg stressed the importance of insulating Yemen from the broader regional escalation, and maintaining the space required for an inclusive, Yemeni-led political process leading to a complete end to the conflict.
