Yemeni Government Hands Over 26 Bodies of Houthi Fighters as Humanitarian Gesture Ahead of Negotiations

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The internationally recognized Yemeni government on Friday handed over the bodies of 26 fighters belonging to the Houthi group who were killed on battlefronts in the provinces of Marib and Al-Jawf, after they were identified by the group’s representatives.

The government said the handover was carried out as a unilateral humanitarian initiative, overseen by a local mediator and in the presence of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The step, it added, aims to demonstrate goodwill in addressing the issue of detainees, abductees, and the forcibly disappeared.

The move comes as part of preparations for a new round of negotiations expected to take place in the coming days under the sponsorship of international partners, based on the principle of “all for all,” in an effort to advance progress on resolving the detainee file and enhance prospects for understanding between the two sides.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to continuing humanitarian initiatives as part of broader confidence-building measures and efforts to create a conducive environment for upcoming talks—steps it says are essential for alleviating humanitarian suffering and strengthening security and stability in the country.
