New Houthi Threats to Saudi Arabia Amid Talk of a Possible War

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Houthi group renewed on Saturday its warnings to Saudi Arabia against engaging in any “new war” that — according to the group — may be part of U.S. plans in the region, in an escalatory tone that reflects renewed tension in the Yemeni crisis file.

Houthi official Ali Al-Qahoom said that Riyadh must realize that “the paths to peace are clear” if it is truly seeking stability in Yemen. He added that any settlement — from the group’s perspective — “must go through stopping the aggression, lifting the blockade, ending the occupation, compensating for damages, and releasing prisoners.”

Al-Qahoom accused Saudi Arabia of “evading the requirements of peace,” which according to the group include paying war compensations and repairing the damage caused by military operations. He called on the Kingdom to take a “courageous decision” to pursue the path of peace “with determination and resolve.”

These statements come at a time when the Yemeni file is experiencing political stagnation, amid regional and international efforts aimed at reviving the stalled peace process.
