U.S. Official: Ending Yemen’s Conflict Requires Cutting Off Funding and Material Support to the Houthis

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

A U.S. official said that the United States and the international community must disrupt the transfer of illicit financial and material resources to the Houthis if they want to end the conflict in Yemen.

John Kilby, Political Advisor to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, said in a statement published by the U.S. Embassy in Yemen that violations of UN Security Council sanctions continue systematically, allowing the Houthi group to obtain weapons.

He noted that the Houthis acquire advanced weapons that fuel their armament program, enabling them to threaten their neighbors and obstruct international trade in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Kilby affirmed that these violations represent a threat to regional and international security.
