UN Security Council Condemns Houthi Attacks and Renews Yemen Sanctions for An Additional Year
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The United Nations Security Council has adopted a new resolution renewing the sanctions regime imposed on Yemen under Resolution 2140 for an additional year, including asset freezes and travel bans targeting individuals and entities listed under the sanctions.
The resolution strongly condemned the cross-border and maritime attacks carried out by the Houthi group, including attacks on infrastructure and civilian targets, and demanded their immediate cessation.
It also urged member states to prevent the supply of weapons or equipment to individuals and entities under sanctions, and to support the capacity of the Yemeni Coast Guard and efforts to combat arms smuggling by land and sea.
The Security Council affirmed the extension of the mandate of the Panel of Experts on sanctions until 15 December 2026, tasking it with submitting an additional report by April 2026 on dual-use components and arms smuggling routes.
The Council stressed that there is no military solution to the conflict in Yemen, calling for the completion of the political process in accordance with the Gulf Initiative and the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference. It also emphasized the need to facilitate humanitarian aid and commercial imports, clarifying that sanctions do not target civilians.
