IED Attack Kills Two Soldiers from the “Security Belt” Forces in Eastern Yemen

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Two soldiers from the Security Belt forces of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) were killed and others were injured on Friday, when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated on a secondary road in the Al-Wadi’e district of Abyan province, southeastern Yemen.

According to local sources, the IED was planted by militants, believed to be affiliated with Al-Qaeda, on the road leading to the Al-Shahtah area north of the district. It exploded as a Security Belt forces patrol passed by, resulting in the immediate death of the two soldiers.

Al-Wadi’e district witnesses similar bombing incidents from time to time, targeting patrols and security points belonging to the Security Belt forces in various areas of the province, amid increasing activity by elements believed to be part of Al-Qaeda.

Last month, elements of the organization launched a major attack on the government complex in Al-Mahfad district using two car bombs, which was followed by clashes with medium and automatic weapons in the vicinity of the complex.
