Yemen and France Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Energy and Economic Reform

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Yemeni Prime Minister Salem bin Breik met on Thursday with France’s Ambassador to Yemen, Catherine Corm Kammoun, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the areas of development, energy, and capacity building, as well as support for economic stabilization and institutional reform programs implemented by the Yemeni government.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his government’s aspiration to expand partnership with France in development initiatives and vital projects, affirming that the government is committed to pursuing economic and service-sector reforms aimed at improving living conditions despite the difficult circumstances imposed by the ongoing war and its repercussions.
Bin Breik noted that France has been an active partner in supporting the Yemeni government on several fronts — including reform efforts and ensuring the security of international navigation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden — while appreciating France’s supportive stance toward restoring state institutions and ending the coup.
For her part, Ambassador Catherine Corm Kammoun reaffirmed her country’s commitment to continuing cooperation with Yemen and supporting the government’s plans to improve the economy and humanitarian situation. She added that Paris places Yemen among its priorities in development, capacity building, and institutional recovery programs, in coordination with international partners.
The meeting also discussed a number of joint issues, including prospects for future cooperation, coordination of international efforts to support the government’s reform and recovery plans, and a review of regional and international developments and their implications for the situation in Yemen.
