Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The areas under the control of the legitimate government have recorded 94 deaths due to the measles virus since the beginning of 2025, including 11 deaths in Taiz Governorate, according to Tayseer Al-Sam’ei, the Media Official at the Ministry of Public Health and Population Office in Taiz Governorate.
Official data showed 13,752 confirmed cases of measles, with 1,890 of those cases in Taiz alone. Medical sources indicate that these figures may represent only a small fraction of the reality, especially in areas not under government control, where vaccination campaigns and inoculations have been halted for a long period.
Doctors confirm that the suspension of immunization programs has led to a rapid spread of the disease among children, making the health situation catastrophic and threatening the lives of thousands of children in a number of governorates.
Health authorities urgently called for the immediate reactivation of national immunization programs and the intensification of awareness campaigns and preventative vaccination to confront the epidemic’s outbreak.
These figures reflect the magnitude of the health crisis facing Yemen amid increasing challenges to public healthcare, according to statements by Ministry of Health officials reported by the official news agency.
