Yemeni President Warns Against Granting New Concessions to the Houthis

Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:
Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi met today with Abda Sharif, the UK Ambassador to Yemen, to discuss recent developments in the country, ongoing peace efforts, and the progress of reforms in the economic and security sectors.
During the meeting, President al-Alimi stressed that a just and lasting peace cannot be achieved without ensuring that cycles of conflict are not repeated. He emphasized the importance of criminalizing sectarian and racist tendencies and enabling the state to maintain a monopoly over arms and the sovereign decisions of war and peace.
Al-Alimi reaffirmed the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to pursue a comprehensive peace process based on national, regional, and international references — foremost among them UN Security Council Resolution 2216. He warned against offering any new incentives or concessions to the Houthi militia, which he described as terrorist and as continuing to undermine peace efforts.
The meeting, which was attended by Presidential Leadership Council member Abdullah al-Alimi, also addressed government efforts toward economic and financial reforms and their expected positive impact on state institutions, particularly in regular salary payments and improving public services.
President al-Alimi underscored that Yemen’s humanitarian crisis is a result of Houthi practices, calling on the international community to continue supporting the Yemeni government in its efforts to end the suffering of the Yemeni people and achieve lasting stability.
