Main Suspect in Assassination of Islah Leader in Taiz Handed Over by Aden Police After Four Years of Detention

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Taiz Governorate Police received the main suspect in the assassination case of Dhiya Al-Haq Al-Ahdal, a leader in the Islah party and Deputy Commander of the Popular Resistance in the governorate. This comes four years after he was held in prisons belonging to the security formations of Aden Governorate.
The Security Media Center in Taiz announced that the governorate’s police received Habib Al-Same’i, described as “one of the most dangerous criminal elements,” from the General Directorate of Aden Governorate Police, following joint security coordination between the two sides.
It clarified that Al-Same’i faces a number of serious charges, including murder, road blocking, and armed attacks, noting that the handover is part of the security cooperation between the governorates to enhance security and stability and apprehend wanted individuals.
It confirmed that the suspect has been deposited in Taiz Central Prison in preparation for completing investigation procedures and referring him to the competent authority.
Habib Al-Same’i is considered the main suspect in the assassination of leader Dhiya Al-Haq Al-Ahdal, who was assassinated in October 2021, and other charges related to road blocking and armed attacks.
Muhammad Dhiya Al-Haq Al-Ahdal posted a word of thanks to the police directors of Taiz and Aden on his Facebook page without mentioning further details.
It is worth noting that the Security Belt forces in Aden, affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC), announced in April 2022 that they had apprehended a cell they described as “Houthi,” consisting of five elements. They mentioned that among those apprehended was “Habib Al-Same’i,” who was security-wanted and accused of assassination and murder cases in Taiz Governorate.
Despite the charges against “Al-Same’i,” the Security Belt forces did not hand him over since his arrest until the Taiz police announced today that they had received him after security coordination with the Aden police.
