Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
Yemen witnessed an unprecedented influx of African migrants during the past month of October, with approximately 17,700 migrants arriving, marking the highest monthly rate this year, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
In its latest report, the organization clarified that the number of arrivals rose by 99% compared to September, with 17,685 migrants recorded, 97% of whom were Ethiopian, while Somalis made up the remaining percentage.
The report stated that most migrants departed from Djibouti, heading to various Yemeni regions. The districts of Ahwar in Abyan Governorate and Dhubaab in Taiz received the largest number of arrivals, while Radoum in Shabwah served as a reception center for Somali migrants.
This intense flow reflects the ongoing tensions in the migrants’ departure regions, pushing many to risk crossing Yemen in an attempt to reach other destinations.
International organizations are closely monitoring the situation to track the repercussions of this migration on the Yemeni arena.
