Foreign Minister’s Statement That “Two-State Solution Is Not on the Table in Yemen” Sparks Anger from the STC

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Remarks by Yemeni Foreign Minister Dr. Shaea Al-Zandani, stating that the “two-state solution” is not currently on the table in Yemen, have provoked strong anger from the Southern Transitional Council (STC).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the STC described Al-Zandani’s comments as a blatant insult to what it called “the Southern cause,” accusing the minister of distorting the facts of the partnership and contradicting the existing political understandings.
The council also accused the foreign minister of sidelining and targeting STC members and representatives within the ministry, calling this a breach of the principles of partnership and balance established by previous agreements.
The statement characterized the minister’s remarks as “a personal opinion,” urging the so-called “Riyadh Agreement government” to clarify its official stance on the statements immediately, and warning against the repetition of such inaccurate and uncoordinated positions.
Foreign Minister Al-Zandani had made the controversial statement during an interview with the Saudi newspaper Al-Khaleej, in which he asserted that “the two-state solution is not on the table in Yemen.” The STC subsequently issued an official response condemning his remarks.
