During his meeting with Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, H.E. Mariam bint Ali Al Masnad, in Doha, Yemeni Prime Minister Salem Saleh Bin Breik called for strengthening the presence of Qatari projects among Yemen’s development priorities, foremost among them infrastructure, energy, education, health, and humanitarian response.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Prime Minister’s participation in the Second Global Summit on Social Development today, Wednesday. The two sides discussed prospects for development cooperation between the two countries and ways to expand the contribution of the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) in supporting the Yemeni government’s plan for economic recovery and institutional reform.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the government seeks to shift Qatari support from short-term aid to long-term development partnerships, focusing on improving basic services and creating real opportunities for growth. He stressed the importance of ensuring that future projects are more directly linked to the citizens’ immediate needs.
Bin Breik stated that the government “looks forward to a growing Qatari role in implementing qualitative projects that have a tangible impact on the lives of Yemenis and contribute to moving away from reliance on humanitarian aid towards sustainable development.”
He also praised Qatar’s fraternal stances toward Yemen and its continuous efforts in the humanitarian and development fields, considering their support to “carry a humanitarian message that reflects Doha’s belief in the right of peoples to a dignified life.”
For her part, Minister Al Masnad affirmed Qatar’s keenness to support the Yemeni government’s efforts in implementing projects that meet citizens’ needs and achieve genuine development transformation. She noted that the Qatar Fund for Development will work to align its upcoming programs with the Yemeni government’s priorities across various vital sectors.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Waed Badhib, Yemen’s Ambassador to the State of Qatar Rajih Badi, and the Prime Minister’s Advisor, Ambassador Mujeeb Othman.
