Yemeni Delegation Explores Chinese Expertise in Customs Modernization and IP Protection

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Yemeni Customs Authority participated in a specialized training course on Intellectual Property (IP) protection and customs work modernization, organized by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

The course, held by the Shanghai Customs College (SCU) in Shanghai from October 15 to 29, 2025, aimed to enhance the participants’ capabilities in IP protection and review China’s experience in developing smart ports and implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in customs operations.

The program included field visits to advanced Chinese customs sites and ports, notably the automated Yangshan Port – the world’s largest automated container port – in addition to the China-Europe freight train station in Yiwu city, and several advanced customs centers.

The Yemeni Customs Authority delegation included four participants, headed by Mursei Saeed Baghoza, Director General of Exemptions and Temporary Admission. They were part of a group of 36 participants representing the customs authorities of Yemen, Egypt, and Comoros.

It is worth noting that IP protection in customs work involves monitoring goods at customs entry points to prevent the entry of counterfeit products, cooperating with relevant authorities, and receiving reports from rights holders. It also encompasses coordination between relevant bodies to halt the release of suspicious goods, mechanisms for inspecting cargo, applying relevant laws and legislation, and raising awareness among inspectors and consumers.
