Hadramout Cooperates with WFP to Develop Early Warning Center and Enhance its Technical Capabilities

Saleh Aboud Al-Omqi, Secretary-General of the Local Council in Hadramout Governorate, discussed in Al-Mukalla with Daniel Mendez, Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) Office, ways to support and develop the Early Warning Center in the governorate. The meeting focused on expanding the program’s interventions by establishing new weather monitoring stations and expanding existing ones, with the aim of enhancing the center’s technical and technological efficiency.
Al-Omqi praised the vital role played by the center in monitoring climate phenomena and issuing accurate warning bulletins, which have helped local authorities take proactive measures to mitigate the damage caused by recurring weather depressions in Hadramout. He emphasized that the center has become a reliable reference for analyzing climate data in several governorates, including Shabwa, Al-Mahra, Socotra, and Marib.
The Secretary-General called for continued support to the center in terms of technical and logistical needs to enhance its ability to perform its tasks with greater efficiency, praising the efforts of the monitoring team in reducing human and material losses during recent waves of weather fluctuations.
For his part, the Director of the WFP expressed his great appreciation for the center’s efforts and its importance in enhancing community preparedness and early planning to confront disasters. He affirmed his readiness to study possible areas of support to strengthen the center’s capabilities within the food security and emergency response programs implemented by the program.
