Abdullah Al-Alimi Affirms Cohesion of Yemeni Presidential Council, Pledges “New Spirit” in Face of Coup and Economic Collapse
Yemen Monitor / Riyadh / Exclusive:
Presidential Leadership Council member Abdullah Al-Alimi affirmed the strength, cohesion, and unity of the Council in facing the critical challenges the country is undergoing, foremost of which are ending the Houthi coup and restoring state institutions.
This came in a statement issued following a Council meeting held Friday evening, chaired by Council President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi. Al-Alimi stressed that the meeting aimed to “sustain efforts, bring viewpoints closer, and address any causes of disagreement.”
Al-Alimi indicated that the Presidential Leadership Council is working with “a single, responsible, and serious spirit” to address the priorities of the next phase. These include, alongside ending the coup and restoring the state, confronting economic, financial, and service challenges, enhancing the path of governmental and institutional reforms, revitalizing development, and developing Yemen’s relations with the region and the international community.
The Council member emphasized commitment to a “new, solid, united, cohesive spirit and an unwavering resolve until the hour of deliverance,” in fulfillment of the Yemeni people who are groaning under the weight of war, the “Houthi repression machine,” and the “hammers of the economic situation.”
Al-Alimi said that the region and the international community are “committed to a clear stance supporting Yemen, its government, and its people in facing all challenges to achieve peace and stability.”
Al-Alimi called on all parties to “mobilize all energies” and to stop “fabricating minor conflicts” and diverting the course of events away from the greater goals, affirming that the people can no longer endure more suffering.
At the conclusion of his statement, the Council appreciated the efforts of brothers and friends, foremost among them the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and the French Republic, for their continuous support for Yemen.
Abdullah Al-Alimi’s affirmation of the Council’s cohesion and unity comes within a complex context the Presidential Council is navigating, amid increasing internal disagreements and the issuance of republican decisions by Council member Aidarous Al-Zubaidi. This confirmation represents an internal and external message of the Council’s “immunity” and its ability to overcome any internal challenges to focus its efforts on the greater goal.
