Formation of Permanent Committees to Control Prices in Marib and Stricter Measures Against Violators

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The committee tasked with following up on the implementation of price reform decisions in Marib Governorate today approved the formation of permanent, joint inspection committees from relevant authorities. These committees will be responsible for continuously monitoring compliance with price controls through on-the-ground checks.

During its meeting, headed by the Undersecretary of the Governorate for Defense and Security Affairs, Major General Nasser Raqib, the committee emphasized the need to double the fines against entities with repeat violations, in accordance with the law. Additionally, it approved carrying out awareness campaigns urging citizens to play their part in monitoring and reporting cases of price manipulation.

The committee also decided to assign the Industry Office and related authorities to conduct joint field inspections in the Al-Wadi and Harib districts to finalize the procedures for commercial permits and registries for all establishments. This includes depositing their legal fees into the district’s account using official receipts (Form 50) and submitting a detailed report at the next meeting.

Major General Nasser Raqib noted that the committee has achieved positive results in the areas of monitoring and inspection over the past period. This was done by compelling money exchangers and traders to adhere to the decisions of the Central Bank and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, which contributed to a decrease in the prices of many essential and consumer goods, alongside the stabilization of the currency exchange rate according to the Central Bank’s set price.
