Yemen and France Discuss Enhancing Health Cooperation and Supporting the Medical Sector

The Minister of Public Health and Population in the Yemeni government, Qasem Buhaibeh, discussed ways to enhance health cooperation and support the medical sector to face current challenges with the French Ambassador to Yemen, Catherine Corm Kamoun, on Thursday in the interim capital, Aden. The Minister invited the French side to participate in the upcoming Health Summit with donors, scheduled to be held in Aden on October 21st.

During the meeting, Minister Buhaibeh presented a number of visions and plans adopted by the Ministry for the development of the health system. The French Ambassador, in turn, affirmed her country’s readiness to strengthen areas of health cooperation and expand interventions in the coming phase.

In a related context, the Minister of Health launched a specialized training program for health cadres in government facilities. The program is implemented by the National Center for Training and Qualification within the Ministry, with funding from the German government through the German Development Bank (KfW) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). This is part of the fourth phase of the project, “Enhancing the Resilience of Health Service Facilities in Yemen.”

The program aims to train and qualify 855 health personnel through 36 specialized courses conducted over two months in several governorates, including Aden, Lahj, Shabwah, Marib, Hadramout Coast, and Hudaidah. Topics covered include health management, combating malnutrition, quality management, child health, medical waste management, and intensive care services.

The Minister of Health emphasized that these training programs represent an investment in health human capital and reflect a positive model of joint cooperation with international partners, which contributes to raising the efficiency of cadres and improving the quality of medical services. He stressed the importance of continued technical and technological support to enhance the resilience of the health system and improve its infrastructure.
