Hadramout Governor Affirms Development of Mukalla Port to Ensure Trade Stability and Boost Economic Growth

Hadramout Governor Mabkhout Mubarak bin Madi emphasized the vital and strategic role of Mukalla Port as a key economic lifeline for the governorate and neighboring areas.

During his meeting with the joint ministerial committee conducting a field visit to the port, he stressed the importance of joint efforts to overcome challenges and resolve obstacles hindering operations, in order to ensure the stable flow of goods and facilitate trade movement.

The meeting, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Transport, the Customs Authority, and local authority leadership, came as part of initiatives aimed at developing and expanding the port. The participants discussed joint plans and efforts to increase the port’s capacity in line with the economic and service development needs of Hadramout.

Deputy Minister of Transport for Maritime and Ports Affairs, Captain Ali Mohammed Al-Subhi, presented a detailed report on the committee’s findings, formed by the Cabinet and the Ministry of Transport. He explained that the preliminary studies and plans for the expansion of Mukalla Port reflect the strategic directions of both the government and local authorities toward modernizing the port to meet current and future demands, supporting export activity, and enhancing port capacity.

Governor bin Madi affirmed that the expansion plan goes beyond the commercial aspect, representing a comprehensive vision for economic development in the governorate. He pointed to the government and Ministry of Transport’s ongoing support for these efforts, stressing that facilitating customs and port procedures is a key objective alongside expansion works, to make Mukalla Port Hadramout’s main gateway to growth and prosperity.

The local authority leadership and the ministerial committee agreed to continue coordination and take practical steps to launch development projects targeting the port, as part of efforts to strengthen infrastructure and improve logistics services in support of the local economy and to reinforce Hadramout’s position as a vital commercial hub.
