On Wednesday, in the temporary capital, Aden, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Shayea Mohsen Al-Zindani discussed with the Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Yemen, Rehana Zawar, the progress of ongoing development projects and prospects for expanding cooperation to support service sectors and infrastructure.
The meeting addressed the level of progress in projects implemented by the UN organization in the fields of electricity, water, sanitation, health, education, and infrastructure. It also discussed future plans and coordination mechanisms with the government to determine intervention priorities according to urgent needs.
The Director of the UNOPS office presented an overview of the prominent existing programs, confirming that opportunities exist to strengthen the partnership with the government and implement additional projects that contribute to improving basic services and meeting development needs in various governorates.
For his part, Al-Zindani stressed the importance of the role played by the United Nations in supporting government efforts, praising the projects implemented by the organization in a number of vital sectors. He reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with UN agencies in a way that serves the priorities of economic recovery and improves the level of services provided to citizens.
The Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of continued coordination between the government and UNOPS to ensure international funding is directed toward the highest-priority projects, particularly in the electricity, water, health, and education sectors, in order to achieve tangible results in the lives of the population. He pointed out that the reform program implemented by the government contributes to creating a more efficient environment for absorbing grants and funding and implementing development projects effectively.
