Al-Alimi Discusses Peace, Terrorism, and State Support with Washington

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi received U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Yemen Jonathan Pecha on Wednesday, in a meeting that carried political and security messages amid the country’s turbulent situation.

The talks addressed the future of Yemeni–US relations and ways to strengthen them, as well as the latest domestic developments and the international support required to back government reforms.

Al-Alimi renewed his praise for Washington’s stance in support of Yemeni legitimacy, stressing that U.S. backing represents a cornerstone in the battle to end the Iran-backed Houthi coup, restore state institutions, and build peace.

He also highlighted ongoing cooperation with the Americans in counterterrorism, preventing the smuggling of Iranian weapons to the Houthis, and cutting off their sources of funding.

For his part, Pecha reaffirmed his country’s strong commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and its unity, as well as continuing coordination with the international community to advance the peace process and end the humanitarian tragedy caused by the war.
