EU Calls for The Immediate Release of The Forcibly Disappeared in Yemen and Reaffirms Support for Victims

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The EU expressed its full solidarity with the victims of enforced disappearance and the missing in Yemen, in an official statement issued by its mission on the occasion of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances. The statement stressed the importance of uncovering the truth and achieving justice, while emphasizing the need to ensure accountability and hold those responsible to account.
Yemen has witnessed a continuous rise in cases of enforced disappearances and arbitrary detentions since the outbreak of the war in 2015, with civilians—including journalists, political activists, and human rights defenders—among the victims of these violations.
In this context, both local and international human rights organizations have documented hundreds of cases where families still do not know the fate of their loved ones, repeatedly calling for disclosure of their places of detention and the guarantee of their legal and humanitarian rights.
In its statement, the EU called for the immediate release of all those unlawfully detained, considering this a necessary step toward achieving peace and stability in Yemen, according to the European News Agency.
This position comes as part of growing international efforts to pressure the Yemeni parties to halt violations and strengthen respect for human rights.
