Saudi Relief Aid for Victims of Aden Floods

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) today launched an emergency shelter assistance distribution campaign for families affected by the recent heavy rains and floods that swept through the interim capital, Aden. The initiative is part of the Yemen Emergency Shelter Project and is being implemented through KSRelief’s local partner, Al-Khair Coalition for Humanitarian Relief, in coordination with the Shelter Cluster and local authorities.

The aid included the distribution of shelter kits containing basic living supplies, benefiting 318 people from families in Al-Buraiqah district, one of the areas most affected by the floods.

Last Saturday, Aden witnessed unprecedented heavy rainfall that caused flash floods sweeping through residential neighborhoods and agricultural lands, resulting in human casualties and widespread material damage—particularly in Al-Buraiqah, Salahuddin, Crater, Al-Mualla, and Sheikh Othman districts.

The floods inundated homes and shops, swept away vehicles, and damaged goods. They also caused near-total paralysis of traffic, turning some neighborhoods into closed water basins, forcing residents to seek alternative means of movement.

Amid these conditions, local authorities in Aden issued an urgent appeal to international organizations for support in the areas of shelter, food, and logistical services. Some schools were also opened to shelter dozens of families who lost their homes in the disaster.

KSRelief confirmed that this aid comes as part of its urgent humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the affected and to support emergency response in the disaster-stricken areas.
