Report: Israel Aims to Dismantle Houthis “Gradually” After Gaza War Ends

Yemen Monitor – Jerusalem – Agencies:

The Hebrew-language newspaper Jerusalem Post reported on Wednesday that Israel has failed to defeat the Houthi movement militarily, but plans to dismantle the group “gradually,” even after a ceasefire in Gaza.

According to the report, a combination of strategic shortcomings and operational limitations prevented Tel Aviv from stopping the Houthis’ ballistic missile and drone attacks. The newspaper noted that power returned to affected areas in Sanaa the same night Israel claimed to have cut electricity to Houthi-controlled zones.

Israeli defense sources told the newspaper that dismantling the Houthis would be a slow process, describing it as “gradually, piece by piece.” Intelligence officials are reportedly making progress, and Israel’s capacity to inflict significant damage on the Houthis is expected to improve over time. However, there has been no confirmed targeting of Houthi leaders, and no reports of such efforts in recent months.

The report added that breakthroughs could take longer than Israeli leaders hope, though not as long as some experts predict. Despite ongoing Houthi attacks, the end of the Gaza war is expected to trigger a temporary cessation of hostilities from Yemen.

The Jerusalem Post concluded that even if the Houthis halt attacks after the Gaza ceasefire, Israeli intelligence operations aimed at infiltrating and undermining the group will continue.
