Public Prosecution Freezes Assets of Hundreds of Individuals and Entities Linked to the Houthis

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

On Monday, the Yemeni Public Prosecution Office announced the implementation of 23 judicial decisions between 2020 and 2025. These decisions include freezing the assets and prohibiting dealings with 303 individuals, 83 entities, and 12 ships linked to the Houthi group and the financing of terrorism. Additionally, the names of six individuals were removed from the sanctions and asset-freezing lists.

This announcement was made during an extensive meeting held at the Public Prosecution Office in Aden, presided over by Prosecutor General Judge Qaher Mustafa. The meeting was attended by representatives from law enforcement agencies and government and regulatory bodies involved in combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

A statement from the prosecution clarified that these measures were taken in implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, primarily Resolution 2624 of 2022, as well as National Defense Council Resolution No. 1 of the same year, which designated the Houthi group as a “terrorist organization.” The measures also align with Presidential Leadership Council Resolution No. 8 of 2024, which concerns the adoption of binding measures to classify the group as a terrorist organization.

During the meeting, participants reviewed what has been accomplished in implementing decisions related to freezing and prohibiting the activities of terrorist individuals, entities, and their financial networks.

The attendees called for enhanced coordination and cooperation among relevant state agencies to build effective regulatory and security institutions capable of fulfilling their role in combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

The Prosecutor General stressed the importance of law enforcement and regulatory bodies adhering to their roles. He emphasized that a lack of transparency and reform would threaten state institutions, lead to economic collapse, and undermine the authority of the legitimate government.
