On Thursday, Yemeni Prime Minister Salem bin Buraik directed the Yemen Gas Company to reduce household gas prices in line with the improvement in the national currency exchange rate and to take strict measures to break any monopolies or corruption in the gas market.
This came during a meeting with the Director General of the Yemen General Petroleum and Gas Corporation, Mohammed Thabet, and the Executive Director of the Yemen Gas Company, Mohsen bin Wahit, according to the official Yemeni News Agency.
In a statement today, bin Buraik stressed that household gas “is not just another commodity but a basic right for every family.” He noted that he had instructed a review of transportation fees and the unification of sales prices for major consumers and agents to ensure that gas reaches citizens at a fair price without manipulation. He added that the government would closely follow up on implementation step by step until the large and unjustified gap between the official price and what consumers actually pay is eliminated.
