Marib Tightens Oversight of Markets and Exchange Companies to Control Prices

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Industry and Trade Office in Marib has continued its inspection campaigns in the city of Harib for the second week in a row, targeting traders of foodstuffs and basic commodities, as well as currency exchange companies.

These campaigns, carried out in coordination with the security department, the local council, and the community committee, aim to ensure that traders and money changers comply with the pricing directives issued by the Central Bank and the governorate’s Industry and Trade Office.

Qahash Ali, Director of the Industry and Trade Office in Harib District, and Colonel Ali Hawat, the district’s police chief, stated that the campaign is ongoing on a daily basis to monitor price reductions on goods, vegetables, and restaurants, in addition to regularly checking updated price lists.

The officials added that the campaign includes penalizing violators and price manipulators, as well as closing exchange companies that have been ordered shut by the Central Bank, with the goal of protecting consumers and stabilizing the market.

These efforts come amid rising economic challenges facing the governorate, as the Industry and Trade Office seeks to strengthen oversight to regulate markets and maintain price stability in the city in line with official directives.
