Yemen Welcomes New Countries’ Intention to Recognize the State of Palestine

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Republic of Yemen has welcomed the announcement by Canada, Australia, Portugal, and Malta of their intention to recognize the State of Palestine. The ministry described the move as a “long-awaited historical decision” that represents significant international progress toward ending a conflict that has lasted for more than half a century.
In a press statement, the ministry confirmed that these developments are a crucial step toward achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East and opening up real prospects for implementing the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The Yemeni Foreign Ministry directed a call to all the world states that has not yet recognized the State of Palestine to take similar steps, which would embody their respect for international law and their support for the legitimate and historical rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Yemen reiterated its firm and unwavering position in support of the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that the recognition of the State of Palestine is not merely a legal and historical entitlement but also a humanitarian and ethical stance that expresses a commitment to justice and human rights in light of the increasing challenges facing the Palestinian people.
Two days ago, on Wednesday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced that 15 countries had issued a collective appeal expressing their intention to recognize the State of Palestine.
In addition to France, Canada and Australia, both members of the G20, joined this joint appeal. Other countries that signed the call were Andorra, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Slovenia, and Spain.
Nine countries expressed their readiness or positive interest in recognizing the Palestinian state: Andorra, Australia, Canada, Finland, Luxembourg, Malta, New Zealand, Portugal, and San Marino.
