Houthi Court Sentences Former President’s Son Ahmed Ali to Death

Yemen Monitor – Sana’a – Exclusive:
A Houthi-run military court on Thursday sentenced Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, the son of the former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and former commander of the Republican Guard, to death, along with the confiscation of his assets, on charges of “treason and collaboration with the enemy.”
Houthi media outlets reported that the court also convicted Ahmed Ali of corruption, ordering the recovery of embezzled funds.
Ahmed Ali currently serves as Deputy Chairman of the General People’s Congress Party in Sana’a. He has largely withdrawn from political life and had been under house arrest in Abu Dhabi, following a UN Security Council resolution accusing him of facilitating the Houthi takeover of the capital Sana’a in September 2014. Sanctions against him were recently lifted.
This latest ruling underscores the ongoing political and judicial escalation by the Houthi movement against figures affiliated with the former regime and rival factions.
