Devastating Rockslide in Dhamar Claims Several Lives, Sweeps Away Police and Civilian Vehicles

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

a devastating rockslide occurred in the Dhamar Governorate, Yemen, leading to multiple fatalities and the destruction of police and civilian vehicles.

The incident took place in the Naqil Bani Salama area of the Al-Manar Anis district. Heavy rains and torrential floods caused a road blockage, leading to a pile-up of vehicles at the base of a mountain.

According to local sources, the rockslide destroyed four semi-trucks—two carrying flour, one with diesel, and one with fertilizer—as well as two traffic police cars and a motorcycle. The collapse resulted in significant casualties, with numerous people killed and injured.

Reports indicate that the heavy rainfall completely cut off the road, causing vehicles to gather in one spot just before the mountain suddenly collapsed on them.

Security sources say the disaster poses a major challenge for local authorities as they work to manage the aftermath and secure damaged roads, especially with the ongoing severe weather increasing the risk of further mud and rockslides in the area.
