UN Sanctions Team Discusses Human Rights Developments in Yemen During Visit to Aden

The head and members of Yemen’s National Commission to Investigate Alleged Human Rights Violations (a government body) met on Wednesday with the United Nations Security Council Sanctions Committee team at the commission’s headquarters in the interim capital, Aden.

During the meeting, Judge Ahmed Saeed Al-Muflehi, Chair of the Commission, outlined the commission’s key activities during 2024 and 2025, emphasizing its efforts to document human rights violations across various provinces. He stressed the commission’s openness to cooperate with both local and international entities to better reach victims and help reduce ongoing violations.

On their part, committee members Patricia Claudia Ramos, an expert in international humanitarian law, and Myriam Zambatti, an expert on armed groups, expressed appreciation for the commission’s work and its perseverance under difficult conditions. They noted that such efforts have helped build trust among victims and the broader local community.

The meeting addressed several topics and inquiries raised by the UN expert team, including issues related to the truce, civilian protection, child recruitment, and landmine incidents in various governorates, alongside other human rights concerns.

Members of the national commission provided detailed responses and clarifications, affirming their continued commitment to carrying out their mandate in accordance with established professional and humanitarian standards.
