Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:
Yemen’s Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday that traffic accidents in liberated areas and provinces during the first half of July resulted in 21 fatalities and 189 injuries, including 75 serious cases. Material losses were estimated at approximately 59.75 million Yemeni rials.
According to a traffic report issued by the General Department of Command and Control, a total of 207 traffic accidents were recorded during the period, including:
- 125 vehicle collisions
- 54 pedestrian run-overs
- 19 vehicle rollovers
- 7 crashes into stationary objects or parked vehicles
- 2 cases of people falling from moving vehicles
The report attributed the causes of these accidents to various traffic violations, most notably: speeding and overloading, dangerous or improper overtaking, driver negligence and distraction, driving against traffic, driving while fatigued, and failure to maintain proper vehicle condition.
During the same period, local traffic police branches in liberated provinces recorded 2,520 traffic violations. These ranged from breaching traffic laws and obstructing roadways to failing to meet safety standards. All such violations pose real threats to road users and could lead to future accidents if not addressed decisively, the ministry warned.
The Interior Ministry urged all drivers and road users to strictly adhere to traffic laws and safe driving practices, and to avoid reckless behaviors that endanger lives and result in significant human and material losses.
