Al-Zubaidi: STC to Undergo Leadership and Structural Reshuffle

Yemen Monitor / Aden / Special:
The head of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, announced on Wednesday that the UAE-backed entity is preparing for a leadership and organizational restructuring aimed at enhancing the council’s performance across all levels.
Al-Zubaidi stated that the goal of the restructuring is to “strengthen the performance of the STC’s bodies at various levels.”
This announcement comes just two days after Al-Zubaidi returned from an international tour that included visits to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, accompanied by his deputy Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami and several members of the STC’s presidency.
Al-Zubaidi explained that the visits aimed to mobilize regional support, emphasizing that the STC is not shirking its responsibilities but is instead confronting them “with transparency and courage” within the framework of its partnership in the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government.
Prior to his international tour, the STC launched a major criticism of the Yemeni Parliament, rejecting the formation of parliamentary field committees. The Yemeni Parliament’s presidency, in a meeting held in Aden, had approved the formation of three committees to conduct field visits to ten governorates — seven of them in southern Yemen: Aden, Taiz, Lahj, Dhalea, Hadramaut, Al-Mahrah, Shabwa, Marib, Abyan, and Socotra. These committees were tasked with assessing the performance of local authorities, managing public resources, and reviewing financial and administrative practices.
The STC’s rejection of these committees highlights the ongoing tensions between the Southern Transitional Council and the internationally recognized Yemeni government, reflecting deeper divergences in goals and priorities, particularly regarding anti-corruption efforts and the fight against the Houthis.
