The Yemeni Artists and Writers Forum on Friday mourned the passing of poet and literary figure Fouad Al-Himyari, who died after a long battle with illness in Istanbul, Turkey, marking a significant loss for Yemen’s cultural and literary circles.
In its obituary statement, the forum said:
“With Al-Himyari’s passing, Yemen has lost a rare literary figure and a free-spirited poet whose voice consistently stood with the causes of humanity, freedom, and dignity. He carried the word with responsibility, turning the poem into a platform, and his platform into poetry.”
Al-Himyari, a member of the forum’s board of trustees, was regarded as one of the most prominent poets and intellectuals of the February Revolution, known for his patriotic stance and moral integrity. Through his poetry collections, articles, and speeches, he helped shape a culturally and nationally conscious mindset that upheld the values of justice, peaceful resistance, and intellectual honesty.
The forum affirmed that the late poet will remain present in the collective memory of future generations through his poetic, cultural, and revolutionary legacy, and for the clarity and balance he embodied in both word and stance. It also extended its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and admirers in Yemen and beyond.
