Yemeni Government Condemns Houthi Confiscation of Save the Children’s Assets

Yemen Monitor/ Aden/ Agencies:

The Yemeni government condemned the Houthi forces’ storming of Save the Children’s offices in Sana’a and other governorates, and the confiscation of assets valued at approximately $4 million.

Information Minister Muammar Al-Eryani stated that the Houthis stormed the main office of Save the Children in the Houthi-controlled capital, Sana’a, as well as its branches in the provinces of Amran, Hajjah, Saada, Al-Hudaidah, and Ibb. He said they looted all the organization’s assets, including vehicles, electric generators, computers, medicines, and office supplies, with an estimated total value of $4 million.

Al-Eryani considered this “heinous crime to be part of a series of systematic violations perpetrated by the Houthi militia against international and local humanitarian organizations, with over 95 recorded cases of raids and looting since 2015.”

Al-Eryani pointed out that the Houthi takeover of the premises came after the organization announced the closure of its offices in Houthi-controlled areas at the end of last May, and the termination of contracts for approximately 400 male and female employees. This move deprived over 1.2 million children in affected governorates who benefited from the organization’s direct and indirect programs.
