Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
Yemeni archaeologist Abdullah Mohsen has revealed serious information regarding a rare Yemeni bronze statue being offered for sale in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a.
Mohsen shared this on his personal Facebook page, stating that he received information from multiple sources indicating the availability of an ancient bronze statue, over a meter in length, for sale in Sana’a.
Mohsen explained that the statue resembles Yemeni bronze statues preserved in many international museums. He emphasized that the relevant authorities in Sana’a are urged to act quickly to confiscate this rare artifact and hand it over to the Yemeni National Museum.
Mohsen affirmed that despite photography being prohibited, he is continuing his efforts to gather accurate information about the statue and its origin. He warned of the serious danger of smuggling Yemeni artifacts and selling them in international auctions or online.
In a related context, Mohsen pointed out the escalation of looting and illegal excavation of Yemeni antiquities during the war years, which has led to the loss of many rare historical pieces, all amid a clear absence of official oversight.
