Grundberg and Egyptian Foreign Minister Discuss Developments in Yemen and the Red Sea

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
On Sunday, the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, held a meeting in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty. The two officials discussed recent developments in the Yemeni file and the situation in the Red Sea.
According to a statement issued by the UN Envoy’s Office, a significant portion of the meeting focused on the political process in Yemen. Grundberg briefed the minister on the latest outcomes of his consultations with key Yemeni parties and the UN’s efforts to advance the peace process.
The discussion emphasized three main tracks—political, economic, and security—as fundamental pillars for any comprehensive and sustainable settlement in the country.
The meeting also addressed the repercussions of recent regional tensions in the Red Sea, particularly in light of the temporary halt in military operations between the Houthi movement and the US.
Both sides viewed the current relative calm as a valuable opportunity that should be capitalized on to safeguard one of the world’s most vital maritime corridors and enhance navigation security in the region, in a manner that serves the interests of the region’s nations and the international community as a whole.
For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty reiterated Egypt’s steadfast support for a comprehensive political solution to end the conflict in Yemen. He stressed the importance of continued UN mediation efforts and the need for unified regional and international action to make tangible progress toward peace.
Abdel Aaty also expressed Cairo’s readiness to provide necessary support for Grundberg’s initiatives, noting that Yemen’s security and stability are integral to Arab national security and a cornerstone of broader regional stability.
This meeting comes amid a flurry of diplomatic activity by the United Nations, in coordination with several regional countries concerned with the Yemeni issue, aimed at maintaining political momentum and transforming the current calm into a real opportunity to resume stalled peace negotiations in Yemen.
