Saudi Project Destroys 3,036 Landmines and Explosives, Disposes of 6 Katyusha Rockets in Bab al-Mandab

On Wednesday, the Saudi project “Masam” for landmine clearance in Yemen successfully carried out the destruction and detonation of 3,036 landmines and unexploded ordnance in Bab al-Mandab area, as part of its ongoing efforts to secure liberated areas and protect civilian lives.

The operation included the disposal of 53 anti-tank mines, 49 anti-personnel mines, 97 various shells, and 7 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), in addition to 2,314 assorted rounds of ammunition, and 490 fuses and detonators. It also involved the destruction of 6 Katyusha rockets, 2 other missiles, and 18 bombs of various types.

This operation is part of the continuous activities of the Masam project to clear Yemeni land of mines and remnants of war, and to help provide a safe and stable environment for civilians.

Since its launch in mid-2018, Masam project has successfully removed and destroyed over 484,949 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and IEDs, and cleared approximately 63.4 million square meters of Yemeni land contaminated with mines, significantly contributing to the restoration of life and hope in previously hazardous areas.

Masam project, implemented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, continues its efforts to clear Yemeni territory of landmines planted by Houthi militias, aiming to protect civilians and enable them to return to their normal lives.
