Yemen Calls for Renewed US Support to Confront the Escalating Humanitarian Crisis May

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
Yemeni Foreign Minister Shayea al-Zindani met with the US Ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Monday, in an effort to revive suspended US financial support that has been halted for months.
According to the official Yemeni news agency, the discussions focused on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and resume US development and humanitarian support, which is considered crucial to contain the repercussions of the humanitarian crisis in one of the poorest countries in the region.
Al-Zindani pointed out that the continued suspension of aid exacerbates the suffering of civilians and weakens the stability of service institutions, calling on Washington for its “moral commitment” towards the Yemeni people.
For his part, the US Ambassador noted his country’s commitment to supporting the Yemeni government and the Presidential Leadership Council, indicating the U.S.s’ keenness to expand its partnership with Sana’a in the development and political fields.
However, no concrete steps were announced to end the freeze on aid, which was suddenly halted months ago, leading to a worsening shortage of food and medicine and rising poverty rates.
It is worth noting that Yemen relies heavily on foreign aid, amid repeated warnings from international organizations about the risk of an unprecedented famine in light of the continuing political and economic crises.
