Yemeni Prime Minister Issues Urgent Directives to Save Aden’s Electricity Sector

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Yemeni Prime Minister Salem bin Brik issued urgent instructions to provide emergency fuel supplies to electricity generation plants in the interim capital, Aden, in an attempt to contain the escalating crisis caused by increasing power outages, which have caused severe suffering for residents.

These directives came during intensive communications conducted by bin Brik with Minister of Oil and Minerals Saeed Al-Shamasi, Minister of Electricity Mane’ bin Yamin, Aden Governor Ahmed Lamlas, and the director of the governorate’s Electricity Corporation, Salem Al-Walidi, to review urgent measures aimed at addressing the recurring collapse of the electricity service, according to the official Yemeni News Agency.

Government sources confirmed that bin Brik urged the acceleration of providing the required quantities of stored petroleum products, including quantities of diesel belonging to a local merchant in Aden refineries, in addition to facilitating the arrival of two fuel shipments designated for the plants, containing 13,000 tons of diesel and 13,000 tons of mazut.

The sources indicated that the Prime Minister is focusing on strengthening cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and other brotherly and friendly countries, to secure sustainable fuel supplies that support the stability of the electricity service, while seeking to find long-term strategic solutions to avoid the recurrence of crises in generation and distribution networks, not only in Aden, but also in other governorates controlled by the government.

It is worth noting that these steps come within the government’s efforts to alleviate pressure on citizens by improving electricity supply hours, relying on available capabilities, despite the existing field challenges and logistical difficulties.
