Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a ceasefire agreement has been reached between the US and the Houthis in Sana’a, following diplomatic efforts led by the Sultanate of Oman.
The ministry’s statement indicated that the agreement includes a halt to all military operations between the two sides, including threats against U.S. ships in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, which is expected to enhance maritime security and the flow of international trade.
Oman expressed its appreciation for the positive cooperation from both parties and voiced hope that the agreement would pave the way for lasting solutions to regional issues and promote peace and stability for all.
For its part, the U.S. State Department stated that the agreement with the Houthis pertains solely to the cessation of attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that the Houthis have expressed readiness to halt their attacks, saying, “The Houthis informed us that they will not carry out attacks on ships, and therefore we will cease our strikes against them.”
Trump added in a press statement: “The Houthis have made it clear they do not wish to continue fighting. They have stopped targeting ships, and we will not strike them again.”
