Yemen Monitor / Washington / Exclusive:
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he accepts the Houthis’ assurance to cease their attacks and that the US will immediately suspend its military operations in response.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the Houthis have surrendered and committed to ending their attacks in the Red Sea, adding, “In return, we will stop striking them.”
“The Houthis told us: ‘Don’t bomb us, and we won’t attack ships,’” Trump stated.
He continued, “The Houthis informed us yesterday that they no longer wish to fight. They said they will no longer fire on ships. They have surrendered. We will not attack them again.”
The U.S. Secretary of State commented, “There was a threat to global maritime navigation, and we succeeded in putting an end to it.”
