UN Envoy to Yemen: Escalation by Houthis and “Israel” a Growing Regional Threat
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, issued an urgent warning over the consequences of the recent military escalation following a series of reciprocal strikes, including a Houthi attack on Ben Gurion Airport and retaliatory US and Israeli strikes on Sana’a Airport and the Port of Hodaidah.
Grundberg stated, “These developments represent a dangerous escalation in an already fragile and volatile regional context,” renewing his call on all parties to “exercise maximum restraint and avoid any acts of escalation that could worsen civilian suffering.”
He emphasized that “a return to dialogue remains the only sustainable path to ensuring lasting safety and security for Yemen and the wider region.”
In a related development, Israeli fighter jets launched airstrikes on Sana’a International Airport, destroying vital infrastructure and rendering it completely out of service, according to statements by the Israeli military.
On Monday evening, both US and Israeli warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes targeting the Port of Hodaidah on the Red Sea, disrupting its operations. Fuel storage facilities in various parts of Yemen were also targeted.
These developments come two days after the Houthi group launched a ballistic missile that struck an area near Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, injuring four people and temporarily halting air traffic.
