Houthis Claim Drone Attack on U.S. Aircraft Carrier and Strikes on Israeli Targets

Yemen Monitor | Newsroom:

The Houthi military spokesperson announced on Wednesday that the group launched drone attacks targeting the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson in the Arabian Sea, along with strikes on Israeli sites in Jaffa and Ashkelon. The spokesperson stated that these operations were in retaliation for what they described as “American aggression” against Yemen.

While the Houthis have previously claimed attacks on U.S. naval vessels, including the USS Harry S. Truman in the Red Sea, there has been no independent confirmation of damage to the USS Carl Vinson or the Israeli targets mentioned. The U.S. Navy has not issued a statement regarding these specific claims.

The USS Carl Vinson has been operating in Middle Eastern waters alongside the USS Harry S. Truman amid ongoing U.S. airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen. These operations are part of a broader campaign that began on March 15, aiming to counter Houthi aggression in the region.

In recent weeks, the Houthis have escalated their activities, including launching missiles toward Israel. On April 27, Israel intercepted a missile fired by the Houthis, which was reportedly aimed at the Nevatim air base. The Israeli military stated that the missile did not cross into Israeli territory.

The situation remains tense, with the Houthis continuing to assert their capabilities and the U.S. maintaining its military presence in the region to safeguard international shipping lanes and counter threats.
