The Russian Embassy in Yemen announced on Wednesday that three of its citizens were injured in a U.S. airstrike targeting Ras Isa oil port in Yemen’s western Al-Hudaydah province.
In a statement, the embassy said: “It is likely that the three Russian nationals were wounded as a result of the U.S. airstrike on infrastructure facilities at the aforementioned Yemeni port.” The embassy added that it is in direct contact with the vessel’s owning company and the crew of the Seven Pearls, which was docked at Ras Isa port at the time of the strike.
The embassy confirmed that one of the injured, a Russian crew member, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in the capital, Sana’a. “Due to the nature of his injuries, he will require a complex surgical operation,” the statement noted.
In addition, two other Russian nationals sustained minor injuries. “According to available information, their lives are not in danger and their condition is stable,” the embassy said.
The statement also noted that 19 Russian citizens remain aboard the Seven Pearls, which is currently anchored at a safe distance from the area targeted by U.S. missiles and airstrikes.
On Saturday, the Houthi group announced that three Russian sailors were injured in U.S. airstrikes on Friday that hit a vessel docked at Ras Isa oil terminal.
The US has been carrying out intensified airstrikes since mid-March across areas under Houthi control in Yemen.
