UK Announces Participation in Military Operation Against Houthis
Yemen Monitor | London | Agencies:
The United Kingdom has confirmed its involvement in a joint military operation with the US targeting Houthi positions in Yemen, the British Ministry of Defence announced on Wednesday.
According to the ministry’s statement, the joint airstrikes were carried out on Tuesday night to minimize the risk of civilian casualties. The ministry added that all British aircraft involved in the mission returned safely.
This marks the first time Britain has officially acknowledged participating in airstrikes against the Houthis during the latest military campaign, which began on March 15. The UK had previously joined U.S. Central Command in operations against the group in 2024.
On Monday, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Barnell said that U.S. Central Command strikes have targeted over 1,000 locations, killing Houthi fighters and leaders, and significantly degrading the group’s operational capabilities.
A statement from U.S. Central Command on Sunday detailed that recent strikes destroyed multiple command and control centers, air defense systems, advanced weapons manufacturing facilities, and weapons storage sites. Targets included ballistic missiles, anti-ship cruise missiles, unmanned aerial systems, and unmanned-boats used in attacks on international shipping lanes.
In recent weeks, the Trump administration has ramped up its aerial campaign against Houthi forces, amid growing concerns over maritime security in the Red Sea and surrounding regions.
