Washington: Airstrikes on Houthis Continue to Undermine Their Military Capabilities and Stop the Threat to Navigation

Yemen Monitor/Sana’a/Special:

US State Department Spokesperson Michael Mitchell affirmed that the US will continue its airstrikes against the Houthis in Yemen, stressing that the goal is to undermine the Houthis’ military capabilities and prevent their threat to navigation in the Red Sea.

Mitchell explained that the US administration is in constant contact with the legitimate Yemeni government regarding military operations, noting that the Houthi attacks disrupt trade routes, cost the global economy billions of dollars, and must stop.

For its part, the Pentagon reported that US forces have carried out more than a thousand airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, resulting in the deaths of a number of Houthi leaders, including those responsible for launching missiles and drones.

These statements come at a time when US warplanes launched a series of violent airstrikes moments ago on locations in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, and Saada Governorate, both under Houthi control.

Local residents said they heard four consecutive explosions in separate locations of the capital, Sana’a, moments ago, and that Saada Governorate was targeted with 4 raids on Tuesday evening, in a new aggression against Yemen, according to Houthi media.

The capital, Sana’a, was also subjected to a series of US airstrikes at dawn on Tuesday, including two raids on the Bani Hashish Directorate.

This comes a day after US airstrikes targeted the homes of citizens in Thaqban area of the Bani Al-Harith Directorate in Sana’a, resulting in the death of 12 civilians, including children and women, and the injury of 4 others, according to the Houthis.

On Monday, US airstrikes targeted a center for irregular African migrants in Saada, resulting in the death of 65 migrants and the injury of 47 in a preliminary toll, according to the ministry.

On March 15, the US resumed its attacks against Yemen, following orders issued by President Donald Trump to the US military to launch a “major offensive” against the Houthi group, before threatening to “completely eliminate them.”
