Rights Warning Of Deteriorating Conditions Of Abductees In Houthi Prisons Amid Escalating US Strikes

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The “Mothers of Abductees Association” expressed its serious concerns regarding the safety of their sons detained in the prisons of the Houthi group, amid the recent US military escalation in areas under the group’s control.

In a statement issued by the association, it stated that the recent developments increase the risks to the lives of hundreds of civilians forcibly detained in secret detention centers, without providing the minimum guarantees for their protection or consideration of their humanitarian conditions.

The association also condemned the continued kidnappings and arbitrary detention of innocent civilians, some of whom have spent many years behind bars without trial or legal basis.

The association held the Houthi group fully responsible for the lives of the abductees, warning against the recurrence of past tragedies such as those witnessed in the group’s prisons, such as the targeting of the military police building in Sana’a (2017) and the Dhamar Community College (2019), which resulted in the deaths of dozens of detainees.

The association called on the international community and human rights and humanitarian organizations to take urgent action to press for the immediate release of all abductees, stressing that the families of the victims “can no longer bear waiting for new disasters.
