Guterres Expresses Concern Over US Airstrikes Targeting an Oil Port in Western Yemen

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep concern over the US airstrikes in Yemen, which reportedly resulted in a large number of civilian casualties, including five humanitarian workers.
He called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and immediately cease all military activities, warning that any further escalation could exacerbate regional tensions and further deteriorate the already dire humanitarian situation in the country .
Guterres emphasized the need to respect international law, including international humanitarian law, at all times, stressing the importance of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
He also pointed out that the continuation of military actions threatens to undermine the UN-led mediation efforts to reach a political solution to the conflict in Yemen.
This comes a day after US airstrikes on Ras Isa port in the same governorate on Thursday evening, which led to the death of 80 people and the injury of another 150, including port workers, employees, and ambulance personnel who rushed to rescue them, according to a preliminary toll reported by the Houthi authorities.
