Yemeni Government Condemns Houthis’ Displacement of Students from a Mosque in Ibb

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Minister of Awqaf and Guidance in the Yemeni government, Turki al-Wadei, described the Houthi group’s assault on a mosque in Ibb and the displacement of its students as a “crime that reveals to the world the true nature of the group and its inability to coexist with others.”

In a statement published by the official Saba news agency, the minister affirmed that the Houthi group’s continued attacks on mosques expose the reality of its policies and its sectarian, extremist agenda aimed at destroying society.

Al-Wadei said, “Mosques possess a protected sanctity under Sharia and hold a great status in our true Islamic religion. The more a society respects the sanctity of mosques, the more deeply rooted its security becomes, and the more aware and righteous its people are.”

In his statement, he noted that such practices deliberately divert society from education, awareness, and the path to righteousness, and prevent people from studying the Holy Quran in mosques.

Al-Wadei considered the displacement of those who teach in mosques to be alien to Yemenis, whom he described as “people of faith and wisdom who honor the bearers of the Holy Quran.”

The Houthi group had previously displaced 70 students along with their families who were studying at the Imam al-Shafi’i Center in the countryside of Ibb province in central Yemen, following harassment and the looting of the center’s library.
